If you’re like me and try to visit Disneyland a few times a year, even if you’re out of state, then getting a Magic Key (annual pass) could be a great way to save some money, especially if you go to the park at a minimum 4 days a year.
Break Even on a Magic Key
In order to get your money’s worth on a Disneyland Magic Key, here’s how many times you need to visit Disneyland in order to break even on your pass cost:
- Inspire Magic Key ($1749) = 8 times
- Believe Magic Key ($1374) = 6 times
- Enchant Magic Key ($974) = 5 times
- Imagine Magic Key ($599) = 3 times
Technically, these numbers could be reduced by at least one day, especially if you tend to purchase single or two-day Park Hopper tickets.
How I Calculated This
A one-day non-Park Hopper Disneyland ticket can cost between $103 to $206, with an average price of $164.
A one-day Park Hopper ticket costs between $168 to $281, with an average price of $224.
I decided to use the Park Hopper ticket cost average because the Magic Key includes Park Hopping.
A couple things I decided to exclude when breaking down the costs was Genie+ and parking because not everyone will pay for that.
So is getting a Magic Key worth it?
If you plan on going to either Disneyland Park or California Adventure at least 4 times a year, then it is absolutely worth getting a Magic Key, even if it’s just the cheap Imagine Magic Key for California residents or the Enchant Magic Key which is available to everyone.
Honestly, the fact that you get merchandise and food discounts, as well as discounted Disney room rates and even Genie+ is well worth the costs.
As an out-of-state Magic Key holder living in Orlando, my wife and I always break even on our passes as long as we have 4 individual park days during the entire year.
